What are cookies and why do we use them on the My Language Coach website?

A cookie is a file that is downloaded to the user’s device when accessing certain web pages to store and retrieve information about the navigation carried out from said device.

Cookies allow this website, among other things, to store and retrieve information about the user’s decisions and habits. At My Language Coach we use them to personalize the experience within our websites, identify and remember the registered user and facilitate navigation.

It is important to note that the use of cookies does not provide personal data of the user, who remains anonymous to My Language Coach.

The user can configure their browser to not accept the use of cookies, in which case the personalization of the experience would not apply, although they will still be able to access the content of our websites normally.

On the Wikipedia page (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cookie_(informática)) you can find out more about what cookies are and how they work.

What type of cookies do we use?

Cookies, depending on their permanence, can be divided into session or permanent cookies. The former expire when the user closes the browser. The latter expire depending on whether the purpose for which they are used is fulfilled (for example, so that the user remains identified on the My Language Coach websites and services) or when they are manually deleted.

Additionally, depending on their purpose, Cookies can be classified as follows:

Technical Cookies: Technical Cookies are our own and temporary cookies that, in this specific case, allow the browser to remember certain aspects such as the language of the website visit, as well as the visibility of the cookie bar, depending on whether or not the conditions have been accepted.

Registration Cookies: Registration Cookies are our own and temporary cookies that are generated once the User has registered or subsequently opened their session, and are used to identify them on the website and services for the following purposes:

  • Keep the user identified so that, if they close a service or website, the browser or the computer and at another time or day they re-enter said service or website, they will continue to be identified, thus facilitating their navigation without having to identify themselves again. This functionality can be deleted if the user clicks on the “Exit” function, so that this Cookie is deleted and the next time the user enters the website, he/she will have to log in to be identified.
  • Check whether the user is authorized to access certain services, for example, to participate in a contest.

Analytical cookies: each time a User visits a Website or Service, a tool from an external provider (Google Analytics and similar) generates a temporary analytical cookie, which may be its own or a third-party cookie, on the user’s device. This cookie, which is only generated during the visit, will be used in future visits to the My Language Coach services to anonymously identify the visitor. The main objectives pursued are:

  • Allow anonymous identification of browsing users through the “Cookie” (identifies browsers and devices, not people) and, therefore, the approximate counting of the number of visitors and their trend over time.
  • Anonymously identify the most visited content and, therefore, the most attractive to users.
  • Know if the user accessing is new or a repeat visitor.

Important: Unless the User decides to register on a My Language Coach website, the cookie will never be associated with any personal data that could identify the User. These cookies will only be used for statistical purposes that help optimize the user experience on the site.

Other Google cookies: Google uses other third-party cookies to enable the Google Maps and, eventually, Google Calendar modules to function.
